Yesterday, the Merlesque mermaids travelled to Brighton for the first ever March of the Mermaids. The March is the UK's version of the Coney Island Mermaid Parade in the US, and it was held to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society. Merlesque performed at the after-party, and handed out the prizes for the costume competition.
Our mermaids left Cambridge early and arrived in Brighton well before the March, which left us with enough free time to have lunch on the beach. The sun was shining, the water was inviting... the mermaids couldn't resist a swim!
Unfortunately, the weather proved somewhat changeable and the sunshine was interspersed with rain showers as the March set off. We awaited their arrival at the after-party venue, Above Audio - we could tell when the March was getting close from the sound of drumming, and the sight of passers-by craning for a better look. The marching mermaids certainly made quite a splash as they made their way through Brighton.

The prize-giving was also great fun, with some amazing prizes on offer and a well-deserved victory for King Prawn and Queen Mermaid 2013. Hopefully the event raised plenty of money for the Marine Conservation Society - we'd love to come back again next year!
Love and best fishes,
